8 Signs That We Simply Don’t Need GMOs to Feed the World

Christina Sarich, Natural Society / Waking Times  Photo: Pixabay 8 Signs That We Simply Don’t Need GMOs to Feed the World Christina Sarich, Natural Society Waking Times Key research shows we don’t need GMOs to feed the world… Do we really need Monsanto’s GMOs to feed the world? Looking at the research and the studies, the answer is quite clear. Let’s take a look at the 8 proofs that we most certainly do not need GMOs to feed the world: 1. One Organic Rooftop Farm Can Feed 9000 People One organic rooftop farm can feed 9000 people. They don’t use pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides, and they provide fresh produce to their community year-round (1). This is a big slap in the face to the biotech companies who lie, saying that GMO is needed to feed the world. This is only one urban farm bucking the system. “Several of the high profile advocates for conventional agricultural production have stated that the world would starve if we all converted to organic agriculture. They have written articles for science journals and other publications saying that organic agriculture is not sustainable and produces yields that are significantly lower than conventional agriculture.” ~ Avery (2000) Trewavas (2001) Are these claims really true? 2. Small Organic Farms Are Working, Even In Major Cities Lufa Farms has an astonishing approach to feeding the world. Their newest rooftop hothouse in the suburb of Laval near Montreal, produces enough veggies for more than 9,000 people. According to Lufa’s founder Mohamed Hage, this is only the beginning. From rhubarb to kale, and organic milk, cheese, and tofu, Lufa is feeding its community without following Big Ag practices. The company plans to expand to Chicago soon. 3. Airports Serving… Sustainable Foods? Or take La Guardia airport – yes, you read that right. An airport is also sticking it to Monsanto, Bayer and Syngenta by serving organic, local, and sustainable food at their upscale eateries scattered through different terminals. Agribusiness advocates such as Steve Kopperud need a reality check. They think you can’t feed the world on organic, sustainable, non-GMO food, but they are dead wrong. 4. The UN Admits We Don’t Need GMOs Even the UN once admitted that, “organic and other sustainable farming methods that come under the umbrella of what the study’s authors called ‘agroecology’ would be necessary to feed the future world.” You can read the pdf here. 5. Sustainable Agriculture = Increased Crop Yields Further, an editorial in New Scientist stated that low-tech sustainable agriculture is increasing crop yields on poor farms across the world, often by 70 percent or more. This is achieved by replacing synthetic chemicals with natural fertilizers and natural pest control methods, while the Union of Concerned Scientists has pointed out that GE crops are failing to yield: “. . .GE soybeans have not increased yields, and GE corn has increased yield only marginally on a crop-wide basis. Overall, corn and soybean yields have risen substantially over the last 15 years, but largely not as result of the GE traits. Most of the gains are due to traditional breeding or improvement of other agricultural practices.” Conversely, vertical organic farming is going high tech and big-scale. Utilizing the space equal to a small one-bedroom apartment, healthy food can be grown for a small family. “Using a combination of new growing techniques and more sustainable energy practices, food markets around the world could soon benefit from...

Why We Stay Busy When We’re Not & The Benefits of Doing Nothing

Why We Stay Busy When We’re Not & The Benefits of Doing Nothing

Collective Evolution  Photo: Pixabay Why We Stay Busy When We’re Not & The Benefits of Doing Nothing Collective Evolution Have you ever sat down to relax only to notice yourself pick up your phone or laptop a couple minutes later to play some random time killing game or simply scroll aimlessly through your Facebook news feed? This is basically something we do to distract ourselves and we don’t even know it. We keep ourselves from truly just doing nothing. But why? Why do we stay so busy even when we are doing nothing? Earlier this year I finally completed a 2 year long project I had been working on (new documentary you can watch here!) I thought that once I was done I would finally have time to just chill out and do nothing! But it didn’t happen that way. Instead I ended up finding more things to do or taking on more projects and things that were waiting in the wings. You could say it was the natural progression things flowed in, but at the same time I wanted to take a break and literally just do nothing for a few weeks, or even a whole month. But part of me just can’t let that happen. I either feel guilt or worry that I should be doing more.Making sure things are flowing smoothly with CE or making sure I answer all my emails or prepare for the next project on the go. The list could go on forever if I let it. Then I started to look into the whole thing, why do I feel comfortable when I’m busy? Simply put, I was so busy for so long that it became a habit! My mind and body got used to having a lot of things on the go at once in order to manage all that was happening, and although some time was taken along the way to relax, taking extended periods of time to do nothing was not happening in my life for a solid 2 years. As I wore myself thin, I saw it taking longer and longer to do tasks that generally took me no time at all. It was as if suddenly I was no longer a well oiled and maintained machine because I wasn’t taking the time to let the baby rest! I find that since I have begun to slowly take the time to really just do nothing, my body has become a lot more relaxed and my soul has taken a much needed breath. Even though I have always been one to have a lot on the go all of the time and usually handle it well, there’s certainly great benefit for everyone in taking time to just relax, think about nothing and do nothing. I have begun to challenge my guilt and curiosity of new projects by simply asking myself “Is there truly reason to feel guilty? Can’t these projects wait a couple days or even a week?” Simply being aware and taking the time to ask ourselves these things often shoots down many of the fickle mind stories we tell ourselves about why we “must” feel certain things. Below is an article on the topic that I found refreshing. Check it out and be sure to let us know...

Raw Juice Pulp Crackers

Raw Juice Pulp Crackers

By Stanka Vukelić  Photo: Stanka Vukelić Raw Juice Pulp Crackers We always enjoy lots of fresh juices here, mostly made from organic fruits and vegetables, and as a result there’s a whole lot of pulp, which, instead of throwing it away, can be used as an ingredient for excellent crackers. The pulp is still a great source for fiber and other nutrients, so why not use it for raw crackers?! I usually collect juice pulp over the course of a couple of days, and store it in the fridge. These crackers are so simple. And, the added flavour options are endless. In this recipe, I use pulp from Apple Carrot Juice. The crackers can be used in various ways. We use it for sandwiches, vegetable spreads (as red pepper spread), or for various nut spreads.   Raw Juice Pulp Crackers Preparation time: 15-20 min. Dehydration: 8-12 hours   Ingredients: pulp of 34oz (1kg of carrots) and 17oz (1/2 kg of apples) 2 red peppers 2 onions 3-5 tomatoes pinch of cayenne pepper 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt 3-5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1 fresh-squeezed lemon 1 1/2 cups of ground flax seeds   Methods/steps – 1. Grind flax seeds in a clean electric coffee grinder; grind until powdered. 2. Put the tomatoes and red peppers into a food processor and process well. 3. Put all other ingredients into food processor and mix well. Add some water if needed. 4. Spread out on dehydrator sheets in shape of bread and mark the dough (best with a pizza cutter) into handy pieces. Thickness: less then 0.5 inch (~1cm). Dehydrate at 115ºF (46ºC) for 4-6 hours. When the top feels dry to touch, flip and continue drying on the other side. Let dry another 4-6 hours until dry. 5. When dry, store in refrigerator in a sealed container. Stays good for 7 days, maybe more, we’ll never know, because it is eaten up too soon.   Options: Instead of flax seeds, use chia seeds. If you don’t have pulp – use fresh carrots and apples (best if shredded in a food processor). If you don’t have a dehydrator, let dry in an open stove below 120ºF (50ºC). Or you can bake at aprox. 350ºF (200ºC) for about 30-45 minutes – but this is, of course, no raw food anymore!   Extra Info on Carrots – 1. exceptionally rich source of carotenes and vitamin-A 2. help protect from skin, lung and oral cavity cancers 3. powerful natural anti-oxidant helps protect body from harmful oxygen-free radical injury 4. may help fight against cancers by destroying pre-cancerous cells 5. good in vitamin C 6. especially rich in many B-complex groups 7. compose healthy levels of minerals like copper, calcium, potassium, manganese and phosphorus 8. may provide you with protection against heart disease and stroke 9. helping you to build strong bones and a healthy nervous system 10. beta-carotene may restore vision 11. may offer memory improvement and cholesterol-lowering benefits 12. has anti-inflammatory properties 13. very good blood sugar regulator   “This post is shared at Plant-Based Potluck Party Link Up”   Please let us know what you think, and leave a comment below! Dissolving Illusions and The Dangers of Vaccination

Dissolving Illusions and The Dangers of Vaccination

PreventDisease.com Photo: Pixabay Dissolving Illusions and The Dangers of Vaccination PreventDisease.com Today, we are told that medical interventions increased our lifespan and single-handedly prevented masses of deaths. But is this really true? Dissolving Illusions details facts and figures from long-overlooked medical journals, books, newspapers, and other sources. Using myth-shattering graphs, this book shows that vaccines, antibiotics, and other medical interventions are not responsible for the increase in lifespan and the decline in mortality from infectious diseases. If the medical profession could systematically misinterpret and ignore key historical information, the question must be asked, “What else is ignored and misinterpreted today?” Perhaps the best reason to know our history is so that the worst parts are never repeated. Two centuries of UK, USA and Australian official death statistics have shown conclusively and scientifically that modern medicine is not responsible for and played little part in substantially improved life expectancy and survival from disease in western economies. A summary review of data on neurological adverse events and the historical role of vaccination in the natural course of infectious disease in Switzerland and Germany, supports data from other regions with evidence that vaccines had no impact on disease prevention efforts from the early-mid to late 20th century. Why do we believe something? Is it because everyone else believes it? Is it because our family and community believe it? Is it because we were told to believe it by someone in a position of power and respect? Were we taught to believe it in school? Do we believe it because the idea has existed for a long time? What if what we believed was nothing more than an illusion? It wasn’t long ago when infections plagued the Western world. Smallpox, scarlet fever, measles, typhoid, diphtheria, whooping cough, and other diseases were once considered a tragic part of life. Starting in the mid-1800s, there was a steady drop in the deaths from all these infectious diseases, decreasing by the mid-1900s to very low levels. The elimination of these diseases is one of the most amazing, yet unsung, public health revolutions in history. That journey from disease cesspool to our modern world is a tale of plagues and famine, crushing poverty and filth, lost cures, individual freedoms versus state might, protests and arrests, and much more. Dr. Suzanne Humphries is a medical doctor, Internist and Board Certified Nephrologist. She is currently in private practice and continues to dispel the mythology surrounding vaccination. Roman Bystrianyk has been researching the history of diseases and vaccines since 1998. He has an extensive background in health and nutrition as well as a B.S. in engineering and M.S. in computer science. If you are interested in the facts about vaccination and the history of vaccines Dissolving Illusions is a must have source of information for your book shelf. I wish my colleagues who discourse so prolixly about the treatment of this disease would recognize that the grass in the fields, inconspicuous as it is, has a greater power to heal this disease than all their fancied wisdom and unsurpassed panaceas. ~ Dutch physician, Abraham Bogaert, 1711 Sources: dissolvingillusions.com   Please leave a comment, and don’t forget to follow us for more articles and videos on Google+, Twitter, via RSS feed, or by simply subscribing to our newsletter at the end...

Patient Googles His Way Out of Bypass Surgery

forksoverknives.com  Photo: Pixabay Patient Googles His Way Out of Bypass Surgery forksoverknives.com One of the most common operations performed in the world today is coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). I would like to share with you the remarkable story of a recent Cardiac Wellness Program patient here at Montefiore Medical Center (I’ll call him Mr. J), who changed his diet and averted the CABG knife. Mr. J is a middle-aged man with high cholesterol and a family history of heart disease. Understandably, he desperately wanted to avoid the problems that many in his family had faced, so he ate a “healthy” diet of chicken, fish, and low-fat dairy, with a few fruits and vegetables mixed in. And he exercised. A lot. In fact, he loved exercising so much that he would do it for two to three hours a day — brisk walking, playing sports, etc. Mr. J. first visited a cardiologist at age 55, after having experienced several weeks of tightness in his neck during physical activity. The condition had worsened to the point that only 30 to 45 seconds of exercise brought on significant discomfort. The doctor ordered a stress test, to see if heart disease could be contributing to this symptom. The test results were so wildly abnormal that he was sent immediately to the hospital for a cardiac catheterization, to look for cholesterol blockages in the vessels that supply his heart with blood. Such severe blockages were found that he was admitted directly to the hospital for coronary artery bypass graft surgery. In less than one day, his life had changed dramatically. While lying nervously in his hospital bed, he began to think that maybe there was another way to approach this disease, so he went online. 10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman

10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman

Video / Introduction by Alen Mischael Vukelić   10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman I must say that I enjoy walking, be it in big cities, small towns, or ‘off’ road. I get totally absorbed by everything around me, and very rarely do I have to deal with other people – if I don’t want to. Well, I’m a man and I never really knew that for women this isn’t the case. I was quite shocked when my wife told me that this what you are going to see in the following video is totally ‘normal’ for a woman who’s doing something very insignificant like walking down a street in New York City. Of course I knew that women have to go through much more harassment than men (obviously), but the magnitude is just astonishing. When I look at it I ask myself: What is this? A frickin’ jungle? The monkey age? Women without male company seem to be perceived as a potential prey by a number of short-brained monkey-humans who were mistakenly born into a male human body. Well, karma never sleeps and will – of course – make sure to look after those guys. And when adding the possibility of reincarnation, then it might happen that they get born again, but next time – as a woman. Good luck guys.     Please leave a comment, and don’t forget to follow us for more articles and videos on Google+, Twitter, via RSS feed, or by simply subscribing to our newsletter at the end of this page!  ...

When the Shale Runs Dry: A Look at the Future of Fracking

When the Shale Runs Dry: A Look at the Future of Fracking

Sharon Kelly, DeSmogBlog / Waking Times   When the Shale Runs Dry: A Look at the Future of Fracking haron Kelly, DeSmogBlog Waking Times If you want to see the future of the shale industry — what today’s drilling rush will leave behind — come to Bradford, Pennsylvania. A small city, it was home to one of America’s first energy booms, producing over three quarters of the world’s oil in 1877. A wooden oil rig towering over a local museum commemorates those heady days, marking the first “billion dollar oil field” in the world. But times have changed dramatically in Bradford. Most of the oil has been pumped out, leaving residents atop an aging oil field that requires complicated upkeep and mounting costs. Since its heightin the 1940’s, Bradford’s population has steadily declined, leaving the city now home to only 8,600people, down from over 17,000. The story of Bradford these days is a story of thousands of oil and gas wells: abandoned, uncapped, and often leaking. To drive through McKean County, home to Bradford and much of the Allegheny National Forest, is to witness an array of creative ways people have found to hide the remnants of this bygone boom. Rusted metal pipes — the old steel casings from long abandoned wells — jut from lawns and roadsides. Mailboxes are strapped to some of the taller pipes. In autumn, abandoned wells are tucked behind Halloween props and hay bales in front yards. The aging steel pipes aren’t just on land. They line creek beds, water flowing around one rusted pipe then another. Hundreds are even submerged in the Allegheny Reservoir, small bubbles of methane gas the only visible sign of their existence. But in many cases, these rusted top hats from now deceased wells simply protrude from locals’ lawns. They are visual reminders that, for local communities where mining or drilling happens, fossil fuel wealth burns hot and short. Where there’s a boom, there’s bound to be a bust. With a new fracking rush spreading across the nation, aimed at extracting oil and gas from shale, it’s important to look at the history of prior oil booms — the legacy the drilling industry has already left behind. “Everywhere they drill will likely look like this one day,” said Laurie Barr, an organizer with Save Our Streams PA, a volunteer group which tracks abandoned wells. The costs left by this bygone boom are more than just aesthetic. When an oil or gas well stops producing, it needs to be properly plugged or else it can leak — spewing out oil, brine, water or methane gas. “Many drillers simply walked away from their wells once the oil and gas stopped flowing,” Potter County Commissioner Paul Heimel told the city’s newspaper in August. “Their legacy is tens of thousands of abandoned and orphaned wells, many of which don’t show up on any maps or charts.” Abandoned and Forgotten Simply finding many of the abandoned wells poses expensive challenges. During the early years of Pennsylvania’s oil boom, there were no laws governing the industry. Drillers could simply leave oil wells when production dried up. If maps were improperly marked or lost, a well could effectively disappear. Old steel casings were often pulled from abandoned wells for scrap metal, especially during World War II, so even metal detectors often fail to show their presence. Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental...

Over 2200 Architects & Engineers Crush The ‘Official’ 9/11 Commission Report

Over 2200 Architects & Engineers Crush The ‘Official’ 9/11 Commission Report

Collective Evolution   Over 2200 Architects & Engineers Crush The ‘Official’ 9/11 Commission Report Collective Evolution 9/11 Truth – A set of words that have become one of the most popular subjects of the past decade both on and off the internet. A subject that has become so popular and that has educated so many people that polls suggest more than 50% of the world doesn’t believe the official story put out by the American Government in the “9/11 Commission Report.” For a long time, people have been ridiculed for questioning the official story -being called conspiracy theorists, anti-American, crazy and many more derogatory names. But does it make sense to put these people into this category given all of the evidence that exists to suggest the official story isn’t true? We aren’t talking about far reaching theories that can sometimes be found on internet websites, but actual hard scientific evidence.   Finally Some Mainstream Coverage For years no one in the mainstream media would touch the ’9/11 truth’ story and present the facts they brought forward. Perhaps it was because they were instructed not to or because it was a touchy subject. Maybe it was because they didn’t feel that there was any validity or simply felt there was no “come back” to the hard nosed facts that suggest the official story is obsolete. Either way, we are now seeing mainstream news coverage of a subject that if finally exposed, could change everything in our world. Many already have a hunch about the truth of 9/11, but for it to be common knowledge among the people would transform how people see war, terrorism, their governments and mainstream media. In a C-SPAN interview, Architects & Engineers For 9/11 Truth founder Richard Gage talks about the irrefutable controlled collapse of building 7. What Richard presents is straight physics and rigorous science. More About AE911 Truth “Richard Gage, AIA, is a San Francisco Bay Area architect of 25 years, a member of the American Institute of Architects, and the founder and CEO of Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth (AE911Truth.org). It’s a 501(c)3 educational charity representing more than 2,200 degree’d/licensed architects and engineers who have signed a petition calling for a new, independent investigation, with full subpoena power, into the destruction of the Twin Towers and the 47-story World Trade Center Building 7 on 9/11. The more than 17,000 non-A/E signatories include many scientists, attorneys, and other responsible, educated citizens in the US and abroad. They cite overwhelming evidence for a explosive controlled demolition.“   More Experts Weigh In On The Controlled Demolition The video below is a 15 minute clip from the AE911Truth documentary “Solving The Mystery of WTC 7. Various experts from around the world weigh in on what really happened with World trade Center 7. From My Perspective 9/11 was a big turning point for me when it came to questioning the world we live in. I remember the day it happened. I remember the feelings I had as I walked home from school talking with my friends about the fact that a city not far from us was just attacked by terrorists. But as time went on I started to realize maybe I wasn’t told the whole story. It was during these times that Collective Evolution was...
